Our method

How we compare

The short version: we try to give you the answer a knowledgeable friend would — including when that answer is “buy the cheaper one” or “you don’t need either.”

Verdicts come first, money second

We decide which product wins before we look at whether there’s an affiliate link for it. A product never wins because it pays us, and we regularly recommend options that earn us nothing. If the cheaper or simpler choice is the right one for most people, we say so.

How we research

  • Official sources first. Prices, plans and specs come from each company’s own pricing and product pages, checked when we publish.
  • Independent reviews and testing. Where products are new or claims are hard to verify, we lean on independent reviews and say clearly when something is too early to call.
  • Hands-on where possible. We’re adding our own hands-on testing over time, especially for the family apps we use day to day.
  • AI-assisted, human-checked. CompareXY uses AI to organize specs and draft side-by-side breakdowns. Every comparison is reviewed by a person before it’s published.

How we pick a winner

Most comparisons don’t have one winner for everyone, so we judge each category separately — price, ease of use, features, durability and so on — then tell you who each product is best for. When it’s genuinely close, we call it a tie.

How we make money

Some links on CompareXY are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. CompareXY is an Amazon Associate and earns from qualifying purchases, and we may join affiliate programs run by software companies. Posts that contain affiliate links say so at the top.

Keeping things current

Prices and plans change often, especially for software. Every comparison shows its publish date, and we update posts when something important changes — like new pricing or independent test results for a product that was too new to judge.
